Hi guys,

for a SLI 980Ti OC'd, and i5 4670k (4.4ghz), build, which would be best? RM1000X vs AX860?

My AX850 is faulty I believe so Corsair will replace it for me. Should I sell the replacement (AX860) and get a RM1000X for my new build?

Thanks.

I would definitely be looking at getting a 1000W PSU if you're running high OCs on both the CPU and your GPUs. The RM1000X actually gets pretty decent reviews and is currently cheaper than the competing EVGA and Superflower units.

'pretty decent'... don't think it can get better than 10/10 haha

the 2x 980tis will be purchased by the end of the year so this is why I'm getting the RM1000X now. do you think it's a large step down from the AX860?

Personally I wouldn't trust any online calculators. The only sure-fire way of working out your power draw is to have a power meter connected to your wall socket and see what happens at a realistic full load i.e. gaming/realbench.

The RM1000X is made by CWT. AFAIK, the AX series is made by Seasonic still. The AX860 is more expensive than an RM1000X as it's a Platinum-rated unit rather than Gold-rated. Depending on your OCs, your may be getting close to 1000W but it's hard to say for sure.

Why does the OEM matter if it's not Seasonic? It's all Jap Caps, backed by a 7 year warranty under a gold-rated unit? I guess I just draw 5% ish more Watts from the wall, the only negative I can see. They're both tier 1 units too.

Personally RMx. Although the 860 watt unit would still be fine for your power needs.

But Yeah RMx 10 year warranty (changed recently from 7 years) quieter fluid dynamic fan, quieter fan profile, infact I doubt fan will even run at all. Also has brill ripple suppression and power characteristics thanks to the use of capacitors in cables (much like EVGA). In all great units.

Yeah, they're both good PSUs with good warranties. I'd have no problem putting an RMx series unit in my build. The OEM doesn't really matter if the unit is a good design with good components. In this case it is!

Woah.. 10 years... guessing non-transferrable when I sell it?

So, what's the verdict, sell the replacement AX860 Corsair will send me, and get a RM1000X with money to spare?
