AX860i power efficiency

Hi,

I recently had to RMA my previous AX860i and I have received the new AX860i PSU and installed it without any problems. However if I use the Corsair Link software the power efficiency is acting very strange. It fluctuates every interval (1s) from values around 65% to 45% and sometimes even 25%, in idle. With my previous AX860i PSU I had no such problem because the efficiency was almost always above 85% even in Idle. Then I tried to put it in load by playing high demanding video games like battlefield 4 and then it stabilised around 75%. This is still low compared to my previous AX860i and considering the graph on http://www.corsair.com/us/power-sup...lus-platinum-certified-fully-modular-psu.html it shouldn't even go below 90%. I know this is theoretical but 65% and drops to 25% is extremely low. Note that I did not install any other version of Corsair link nor did I uninstall Corsair link after I shipped my previous AX860i. It is the same corsair link version 2.4.5110. Also I use the same USB header for the Corsair Link USB Dongle. Any kind of help would be welcome, thanks.

Hi,

I just got my ax1200i yesterday, and I had some strange issues setting up the corsair link at first.

When I first ran it.. my computer was taking in 200 watts and outputting 240w, running at 120% efficiency! Wowza! Well, obviously not.

So my 2 problems were:
1) I used the older version, I needed to upgrade to the Corsair Link for Windows 8.1 beta. This fixed my problem of not even being able to see the statistics.
2) The power efficiency is wrong at low levels. It says on the corsair website that it's not accurate at low levels, but by wrong.. I mean, very wrong (hence I got 120%). When on load, my figures all come out fairly normal. I was mining and it comes to about 95% efficiency using about 900w of the 1200w, that's with 3 R9 290s on full load.

I would suspect that you are perhaps using a very small percentage of that 860w PSU and you may be getting the accuracy problems I originally had.

Can you post up a screenshot of your own power graphs after making sure to update to the latest Corsair Link software? And, perhaps you can post up the rest of your spec?

I hope I can help, but i'm new to this corsair link stuff and I just got one myself, but had some problems too at first.

Corsair link reckons my PC is using 250-300w idle, I maintain that there's no chance of that so I don't pay much attention to it.

Maybe I'll update it later and see if there is any change.

It's just at low usage that it messes up mainly.. I'm certain at higher levels it is fine, and it does say that one the corsair website.. One mo, source coming up.

Q: Why is Corsair Link is showing inaccurate power readings with my AXi series power supply?
A: Corsair Link is capable of monitoring your power output at mid and high percentage loads very effectively, giving you a good idea of how much power your system will use at high loads. However, at idle with modern components, the technology inside our power supplies is much less accurate. At low percentage loads (under 30% of the PSU’s maximum output), Corsair Link is not designed to be extremely accurate and vary significantly from actual power used.

Usually they don't want to sound bad so would under play how inaccurate it is.. when they themselves say *much* less accurate, I kind of think that means readings should be avoided at low loads.

Well, I have connected my AX860i to my H100i now via the digital link cable. And strangely the power efficiency is more stable and higher now. It doesn't drop below 70% anymore. Note that I didn't installed any other version of corsair link. I still use the latest version available on the corsair website. I will post some pics below.
