Dr. Pepper have put out a bold challenge to Guns N' Roses front-man Axl Rose;

NEW YORK (Billboard) - Many have tried, but so far nobody has been able to pry the decade-in-the-works Guns N' Roses album "Chinese Democracy" from the hands of lone remaining original member Axl Rose.

Now, Dr Pepper thinks it's up to the challenge. The soft drink company says it will give a free can of Dr Pepper to "everyone in America" (excluding ex-Guns members Slash and Buckethead) if "Chinese Democracy" arrives anytime during the calendar year 2008.

Rose responded on his band's web site that the band was "surprised and very happy to have the support of Dr Pepper." But the offer did not prompt him to rise to the challenge.

"Chinese Democracy" was most recently scheduled for release in March 2007, but promptly vanished from the schedule without a new date being set. Rose said at the time that all the recording had been completed, but there were some "scheduling difficulties."

It will be the first album of fresh Guns N' Roses material since the 1991 sets "Use Your Illusion I" and "Use Your Illusion II." Rose has reportedly burned through $13 million in recording expenses for "Chinese Democracy," and also burned his bridges with the bandmates who helped him turn Guns into one of the biggest rock groups in the world by the early 1990s

Press Release from Axl Regarding Dr Pepper

We are surprised and very happy to have the support of Dr Pepper with our album "Chinese Democracy," as for us, this came totally out of the blue. If there is any involvement with this promotion by our record company or others, we are unaware of such at this time. And as some of Buckethead's performances are on our album, I'll share my Dr Pepper with him.

Axl Rose

Pity isn't a worldwide offer :(

Dr Pepper knows the album won't be released this year - or ever - so it's WIN-WIN for them. Free promotion and they don't have to give out millions of free cans.

Bah it's more likely that CD wont see the light of day, seeing as Weiland is having some junkie meltdown in Velvet Revolver i wouldnt be surprised if the origonal G'n'R boys get back together.

I thought some weird black rapper called Dr Pepper challenged Rose at first. Then I read the post and realised it was the drink. Feel like an idiot now :(

Yeah quite. The new album probably won't be all that great anyway

From the tracks that I've heard live (& the leaked stuff) it's actually quite good.

I can't see it ever coming out now either, which is the sad thing.

Certainly not with Shakin' Steven Adler ;)

Sorry but having "suffered" Axel and the session band who mascaraed as GnR at Download a couple of years ago I personally hope this never sees the light of day.
To tarnish the reputation and name of such a great band by his antics and the random nobodies who appear every few months or so is just a disgrace.

If he'd gone away for a few years (and maybe not said an album will be released this year and miss the date etc etc) and come back with his own "new" band with a new name maybe he'd have a bit more respect but the bloke has just made himself a laughing stock and for the record company to have stumped up $13m somebody there must need their head looking at. I bet there to the stage of just throwing money at it in the vague hope they can recoup some of their expense by something appearing and people just buying it because its been so long in the making.

I am officially boycotting Dr Pepper for their unfair treatment of the legend that is Buckethead.

I find it extremely offensive.

Thankfully I have never liked Dr Pepper. This furthers my disgust for the product and its creators.

however i have gained a little respect for Axl Rose :)

Is it actually them though?

I've heard a great leaked new Metallica album but its not them and I don't know who it is.

Yes, absolutly. The leaked songs are nearly identical to what's been played live at the moment. You can hardly mistake Axls voice, can you?

Speaking of Axls voice, it's pretty rubbish now. It all sounds really strained and forced.
