Hi

Just going to wax oil the car underside in around the chassis and stuff so want to know what bit of the car i rest on the axle stand ?

Its a saxo.

Thanks

I normally put mine near the rear part of the wishbone, not the actual wishbone itself though.

Put a little piece of softwood or rag in the 'saddle' of the axle stand and place them under the jacking points which on the saxo is the seam on the bottom of the sills.

How is he going to lift the car in the first place to place the stands under?

I would never use axle stands on a wishbone, or on the standard jacking point on a sill - the standard jacking point on a sill is specially shaped to take the manufacturers jack - an axle stand or trolley jack is likely to do some damage.

Personally I nearly always use them on the subframe (assuming the car has one) or the chassis rails.

Yeah, ive known people who have though, they dont realise wishbones move :o
Wishbones don't take load very well either, they are liable to bend. Same goes for rear suspension arms, driveshafts and so on.

Nor do torsion bars, Shame the local MOT centre isn't as knowledgeable as you isnt it!
Oops! I'd really have thought it was common sense but..... ah well.

Handbook with car usually shows the jacking points for supplied scissor/bottle jack as well as for trolleyjack/axel stands. As lopez says you want a nice soild bit of chassis, not a wishbone or exhaust or brake line hehe :)

its all about the ghetto lifting methods :D
