Hi,i need abit of advise please:)
would this board (B Grade** Gigabyte Z68AP-D3 Intel Z68 (Socket 1155)
be ok to run with a i5 3570k
i want to overclock to about 4.5ghz if the board will let me.

thanks

As they are, they are using the old award bios which means on that particular board the highest you can set the multiplier to is 36 (or 38 can't remember exactly). So max OC would be 3.8ghz.

To unlock the ivy multiplier you need to upgrade the the uefi bios. If you have a Rev2 board (tells you on the edge of the mobo PCB) then there is an official tested uefi bios on the gigabyte site. If you have a rev1, the uefi bios is beta so you use at your own risk. It does unlock the multiplier though.

Please be aware though that updating from award to uefi is slightly different to a normal bios update so don't use q-flash etc. Gigabyte provide you with custom update software.

Yeah, I got a B-grade z68ap-d3 from here and seen quite a few since. I'm betting this is exactly why, people realise an ivy upgrade is more hassle than with other boards and return them.

I got mine for £25 and use a sandy bridge so I'm happy with it but if you've got your heart set on a 3570k (and so you should!) I'd invest a little more.

I'm jealous, had the upgrade itch for a while too! lol

eh ? max oc 3.8ghz ? What you on about!

it will do well over 38x I have a rev1 board and its set to 45 for 4.5ghz so I am not sure where you got your info from. You also dont need to "unlock the ivy multiplier" thats nonsense.

I've got the Z68AP-D3 it is an excellent board and there were various threads on here singing its praises not so long since as being an excellent board.

Also the UEFI BIOS is only officially shown for rev2.0 of the Z68AP-D3 there is a beta BIOS as you said for the rev1.0 but the only one I can find is dated 16/11/11 and its not appeared on the main BIOS download page which makes me think its not worth trying.

arkanoid sorry but im getting very confused now:confused:
would that board really work ok with a if 3570k?
because i know that the 3570k comes unlocked, and it's only a click of a button in bios to overclock it,
because i could buy it tonight if it would overclock ok.

thanks

I got the B-grade board (rev 1.0) and it comes with the latest F8 bios and according to its CPU support list the 3570K is supported.

Beware though the B-grade board that I got is the bare board only no accessories included, no I/O shield nothing except the board in the box itself.

thats great! i could allways get a shield, and i will have all the cables proberly what are missing anyway. so if i bought this,it will not be faulty in the 1st too months will it?

Varkanoid, no offense mate but I was responding to the OP. He specifically states the 3570k. If he mentioned wanting to oc the 2500k like what you're using, I wouldn't have said what I said.

Regarding the 3570k, my original comments are all correct. there's plenty of confirmation on many boards, including a massive thread on here regarding overclocking z68 award bioses on ivybridge.

Yes the F8 bios which it will ship with supports ivy out of the box no problem, however without flashing to the uefi bios you won;t be able to overclock it past 3.8ghz.

Here you are mate: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18404556&

Thread on overclockers explaining it. It's also on the official gigabyte site. The only reason I post it is I don't want you to regret spending money without knowing full facts. I wish I'd known before, as it was I hadn't given my 2500k to my bro yet so wasn't an issue.

People jump in and spread misinformation sometimes on these boards but the fact is if it's a rev2 you receive, no problem a nice easy bios update and you're away overclocking. A rev1 and you'll be relying on an alpha bios that some have reported a few problems with before being able to go over 3.8ghz.

thanks for the link Mirmo,i will read that later,i think i might just get abit more cash & buy something like ASRock Z77 Extreme4 Intel Z77-- £109.99 inc VAT
along with Corsair Vengeance Red 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 .
thanks for all your help.

My apologies. Perhaps if you would have stated why the max multiplier can only be 38x on Award BIOS then it would have avoided my accidental misinformation and confusion.

If it helps I have read on here that if you go ivybridge you are best to go for a Z77 board.

thanks varkanoid for the info aswell :)
i will start looking at some Z77 boards.
by the way you live in wakefield i take it you have seen that tardis box on the corner near morrisons petrol:D

just to let you guys know that i went with the following...
ASRock Z77 Extreme4 Intel Z77
Intel Core i5-3570K 3.40GHz
Corsair Vengeance Red 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3
Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo CPU Cooler
Samsung 120GB SSD 840 SATA 6Gb/s Basic

but not put it together yet,as it's all for christmas.
