hi guys i just bought a gtx 980 strix from ocuk from the clearance section got it for a good price and it looks like new but im less than happy with the temps i am getting from it.
at idle its at 46c now i know the fans turn off but this does seem quite high on load something strange is going on, the card on full load using heaven benchmark with no overclock runs at 75c/76c @61% fan speed which is acceptable if not a little loud! with overclock but no volt increase the temps go to 81c @ 68% fan speed its starting to get quite loud, at this temp the boost clock is dropping 24mhz, now the strange thing is if i manually set the fan speed from 68% to 100% the temps only drop by 2c it seems to make no difference what speed the fans are running at soon as you go over 60% and that's with my case closed or open.
gpu temp on idle- voltage @ 0.862 fan speed manual at 100% 35c whats up with this card?

Those temps you post look okay for a 980 on air under load. Idle seems a bit high mine are at 27/29c idle but I havent gamed yet.

Under load my bottom one on air goes to about 70c. Can't see what the problem is.

Thats fine temps for a 980 mine hit 75c at load. Lows a bit high but if ur fans turn off its going to be higher than others

my idle temp with 100% fan speed is 35c ! the fan speed seems to have little or no effect to temps on full load or idle thats my issue.

Are all the fans on the card running? Might be worth changing the thermal paste and checking that the cooler is seated correctly.

Why should he have to do that? OCUK shouldn't have sold it then. I would call them asap and return the card for another

If it's B grade and he got it for a good price they may not have any more so if he returns it he'll get a refund and be left card less. He maybe able to RMA direct to manufacturer and get a brand new card though :)

this card is well known for it low temps and quietness, mine is anything but. i would remove the stock cooler and re-paste but there is a small sticker on one of the screws if i remove it i lose warranty, also i did notice the cooler does seem to be loose but the three screws i checked seem to be tight.
have i got grounds for a RMA? im pretty sure the cooler is not making good contact with the gpu.

What's your airflow like?

Those temperatures don't sound a million miles away from normal. The fans turn off at idle too so you're going to get slightly higher idle temps.

i have phanteks enthoo case with 16 x120mm fans installed! airflow is not a problem. i just installed it in to my node 804 and at stock clocks hitting 83c idle at 44c.i know the fans stop spinning on idle but this card is way too hot how much heat can this card pump out when its at 0.875v and 135mhz clock speed? fan of 60%-100% is making no difference to load temps. i have a few days to think about returning it.

Gibbo admitted that b grade stock is rarely tested thoroughly in a thread before as they are selling below Cost. Tbh b grade hardly ever seems worth it given the number of similar threads that pop up. Get a refund.

B grade ocuk is up there with gumtree bank transfers imo.

Based on personal experience or just trumpet blowing? You get 14 days to send the item back if it doesn't meet expectations and an additional 3 months to sort out any issues that may arise past that date. You may also get the remainder of the original warranty with the manufacturer if any problems crop up after 3 months. Where is the problem?

I got a 780Ti a few weeks back for £199, it looked like it had been factory refurbished as there was absolutely no dust anywhere and the cooler still had it's protective sleeve. It overclocks well and I have had zero issues with it.

not when i bought a B grade from here, it was a nightmare as they wouldn't accept any refunds on it. this was a fair few years ago mind when ddr 3 first came out.
