just a quickie guys, been looking at this:
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/BGrade_Graphics_Cards.html (5th one down, XfX 6800 GS Extreme XT)
as a replacemement for my much outdated 5900, just called overclockers to ask whats missing etc (why b grade?) but apparently the only way to find out is to buy it
the only things putting me off are the 14 day warrenty and the fact that they wont tell me whats missing, for £65 off i'm a little wary.
anyone else had any experiance with B Grade products?
my other option is the X800GTO in this week only
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/AGP.html
needless to say i dont want to spend the extra for what would seems to be an inferior card! students eh?

cheers for your help guys

Bought a B-Grade XFX 6600 XXX edition last week, was boxed (damaged box), but apart from that, everything was in the box and the card runs fine (for a mate, it wasn't for me). Most B-Grade stock are working returned items that have had to be re-added to stock, but obviously are no longer "new".

I've never had problems buying B-Grade from OcUK!

/remembers back to the year of the radeon 8500 being released and picking one up from B-Grade, unboxed for £10!!!!!

Yeah once bought a b-grade gfx card. Looked like the packaging had gone backwards through a shredder but the card was fine. Good price if you get it.

Wow look at the

**B Grade** XFX GeForce 7800GTX Extreme XXX Edition 512MB GDDR3 VIVO TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (PVT70FYDF7) (BG-030-XF)

Price: £549.00 (£645.08 Including VAT at 17.5%)

That is one expensive card considering the x1900xt is not only cheaper but has bettter performance, and also the 7900gtx.

only problem is if anything happens after the 14 days, as there is no come back at all and your on your own as there's no manufactures warrenty either. Look at is as buying something from the bay(e) and take your chances.

It was a joke but thats my true feeling and Im free to have that view, I wont get into a flame war as GPU threads are the worst for that lol.

All yanks plead they are Patriots so half buy BFG cards instead of asian and other half go and buy Canadian cards lol.

I simple prefer Nvidia so buy them. :)

In all honestly, biased opinions do nothign for me. There's no real reason for you to prefer one brand over the other, since they largly perform the same, cost the same, have made the same mistakes and cards from both companies fail every so often.

Why no reason, some like Wrangler jeans and some like Levis, some like Pepsi others like Coca Cola, its a free world (well Scotland anyhow) and having choice is good as is competition. :D

I will never own a Intel cpu or a ATI gpu, Ive ran them though, now is that so bad of me or is it simply my choice, least I dont jump on bandwagons and change my opinions every week like my young cousin, who does my head in with his amd/intel or nvidia/ati crap lol. (young as in 33yrs).

Everyone to their own and also I dont blame anyone here who is thinking of upgrading their AGP rig with one these new GPU's as its good for them till Vista hits then they got latest AMD64 new then, Im doing same, I spent far to much cash to right this rig off and its powerfull enought now, but I constantly see them getting told to get rid of their hardware and buy a mobo, cpu and gpu, they even may need a atx 2.0 PSU and new ram if they want high HT(fsb) as I wouldnt want normal PC3200 in amd64 as I ran all my builds at least 500mhz HT for customers and tested at 550/600mhz.

If I get cash in next few days, I hope to order that new Gainward, and sell my 6800Ultra + NV silencer running 475/1250.

Cola and pepsi are different takes on the same drink. one is very sweet, the other is....well almost as sweat. You d prefer one other the other because they are different.

You'd have a plausable reson to prefer SLi to Xfire for example - they do the same thing but with a different approach, but not to like one company over the other.

That's right it is, but if everybody suddenly switchs to an intel conroe setup, i wont hold it against you if you switch to intel;)

No offence but he sounds like he has his head screwed on. These companies they only want one thing - your money, so why not get the most for your money, instead of being loyal to a brand when there are better alternatives available? From that sentense it sounds like you're letting your pride get the better of you.

ram is the biggest waste of cash in an a64 rig. Yeah, i run pc3200 with my 3ghz opteron. still as fast as hell, still in the top 2% in the wrold according to microsoft. There are better things to spend money on than an extra £100-£150 on 275mhz ram. i dont run an atx2 psu either.

I would assume that the fact it's B-grade will do nothing to your rights under distance selling regulations, so the worst that can happen is you have to send it back.

They advise atx 2.0 for SLI not say its a must, my cousin is a n00b BTW, I know they want cash but I also decide WHO gets my cash, as I said before I dont ideally liek GPU threads as it can get HOT, I actually came back here to answer a few Q,s in cooler HDD section.

BBL gotta run a erand :(

lol all board makers buy "foreign" ram (to USA'ers) regardless of brand, and the brands are only differentiated by packaging/cooler.. if that... they are the same... (NV for NV and ATi for ATi...) so basically brand makes virtually zero difference in purchasing a gfx card...

mmm

Not ture Nvidia specs what the maker can and cant use or fit to card like vivo etc, some cheaper makes didnt use samsung ram on the 6800 range as Nvidia advised, thats why some cards get good name of overclocking in past like gainward golden samples, ie handpicked components, best core from best part of wavers same as amd mobiles were, and possibly then get faster ram like for example some 6800GT's had 2.0ns ram others had same as Ultra with 1.6ns ram.

I wouldnt buy just any brand of card, but thats up to individuals.

RE: B-grade

If you are fine with a "possible" lack of accessories, like ATX back plate/cables on a mobo, or no power adapter with graphics card, or missing software cds etc... then I think they are well worth it. Normally the discount is a fair reflaction of what is missing - a few quid off probably means its just been used, 50% off is more likely to be a brown box with the product it in. :)

Strange how the two 7800GTX's on B-Grade are actually more expensive than the "A-Grade" ones??

Is that a typo on OcUK's behalf?

ive found some b-grade items have not been tested properly. got an nf7s v2 here, that was bought from overclockers and its totally dead. nice 14day warranty
