Long story short, we are in the position to get a good deal on some fitted B&Q wardrobes, although we were going to go down the bespoke route a good deal is available on some end of line units and we have until Thursday to decide.

I was just wondering what people's thoughts were on B&Q wardrobes, fixtures and fittings please? Historically I've tried to avoid anything B&Q (especially their paint) but never been one for chipboard/mdf veneer furniture.

Currently we only have free standing pine wardrobes which lose us a lot of valuable storage space, although are built to last a lifetime.

Thanks

Pine will be still around in 10 years, probably 50 years, B&Q maybe 5 years if your lucky.

Can't beat a bit of solid timber, if you got a alcove, get a local joiner to make something bespoke to fit the space.

Also fitted wardrobes these days, with the modern paraphenalia (you know, pull out baskets and shoe racks and such but with exclusion of pull out hanger rails) usually waste incredible amount of space and you will fit less clothes inside than in regular stand alone wardrobe with shelves.

Yea, we don't want all that junk anyway. Lots of 12''x12'' shelves, some drawers and double clothes rails is all we're after. Possibly the lights but we're going to get a mate to fit some down-lights so easy enough to get something put in the wardrobes at the same time.

The issue we have is that both bedrooms have high ceilings which is great in one way but makes standard doors look tiny. We have the option for overhead storage.

I know lots of people that had B&Q stuff years ago and it didn't really stand the test of time but wasn't sure what the newer stuff was like.

We bought this bungalow with hardly any storage space - in main bedroom we have B&Q light wood and gloss cream wardrobes -dresser and two bedside cabinets and they are ok - only thing is backing board to wardrobes - if you get them throw away the cardboard backs and get 3mm ply - second bedroom has double wardrobe with sliding doors - same applies to backing - and third bedroom is now computer room come storage room - two doubles and corner unit - same applies to backing. - For the money they are ok and look reasonable. - nearly 5 yrs in and they still look ok - nothing has fell off or broken.-------- Yet!!

But pine is bloody god awful. Planning on replacing all the pine doors, facings and skirtings in my house. Agreed wood is nice but anything but pine!
