This is the first ever portrait that I have been really happy with. Having said that, C&C is always good so off you go :) I am usually much more of an architecture / landscape person.

its well exposed, for a low light shot. its sharp, great conversion to b&w.
there is one thing that bothers me, its a big one, no eye contact with either the camera or nothing to lead the viewer to what he maybe looking at.

Thanks for your comments :)

I was really pleased with the exposure, but I do take your point on the composition. I think it still works as it makes you wonder what he is looking at, but I know it's not how it's normally done. He was watching my 3 year old daughter make him a pretend cup of tea :)

I like it. One thing I would have experimented with is going with a rectangular crop and putting his head off-centre to the right which would give him more space to "look into" - even if that space was just more background.

was it all natural light from a window in that shot or is there added flash anywhere?

All natural. The main window of the room was behind him and to his left a bit, and there was another window to his right and ahead slightly.

I will have a look at that, thanks :)
