B2 bombers deployed in UK

Isn't dropping nuclear bombs by plane a bit cold warish? Aren't they mostly missiles these days?

Different methods of delivery suit different stages of conflict. ICBMs aren't much use as a second strike - the initial counterforce would remove them from play.

Yeah it's awesome. The US are decades ahead of any other country with their aircraft technology.

In-service stealth technology, yes. They are the only country that spent giant piles of money on it in the Cold War.

Industrial knowledge/capability - not so much. Taranis is a public example of where the UK is, we just haven't put one in service yet.

IIRC it was part of Russia before we bribed Ukraine to secede, all they are doing is taking that bit back. Big deal, and not something to wave your military at.

Sort of right, but the reason the is so much confusion on the subject is because the are two versions of it's history, the political one and the reality one and they don't really tally that much, to explain:

Political timeline of Crimea:

1900: It's part of Russia.
1917: It becomes a Soviet republic (like Ukraine).
19??: It is downgraded to an independent state/region.
1954: It is "given" to the Ukrainian Soviet Republic*
1991: USSR collapses, Ukraine votes for independence, Crimea once again becomes an independent state/region, this time within Ukraine.
1995: The Ukrainian government declares the Crimean constitution invalid and removes it's president from office taking control of Crimea which is then downgraded to an antonymous republic within Ukraine.
2014: You know the rest.

*Quotes are used because it isn't given to anyone, it's just a media show, it still belongs to Russia because Ukraine does.

Reality timeline of Crimea:

1900: It's part of Russia.
1991: It's an independent state within Ukraine (like Vatican city within Italy).
1995: It's part of Ukraine.
2014: It's part of Russia.

I like having US aircraft full of nuclear weapons on British soils as it will make it so much more convenient for the flight crews not to be operating out of bases on the US east coast when PM Farage asks the USAF to help with Birmingham's long-overdue urban renewal.

Vatican City is an independent state, it's not part of the Italian state. The Crimea has not been an independent state in modern times. Ukraine was a unitary state and Crimea was an autonomous republic within that. Crimea was not at all comparable to the Vatican.

It's all just a bunch of **** swinging. Obama has been swinging his **** all over the world for a while. Smashing his **** here and there and killing innocents with his **** shaped drones etc etc. Just generally showing everyone how massive his **** is.

All this Ukraine stuff starts with Viktor Yanukovych deciding not to suck European **** but to give Putin a Hand-Job instead.
300,000 Ukrainian protesters decide to slap Viktor around his face with all their ****'s. From which he runs away from his gold plated mansion, leaving behind his gold plated picture of himself as a Roman Emperor, and flees to Russia.

SO while 300,000 protesters are running around, getting their ****'s shot off (like from the **** shooting scene in 'Our Robocop Remake') by Police and Ukrainian snipers, Pro-Russian ****'s are organising in Crimea. From what I've read, Crimea was a very Russian area anyway. They hold a referendum. Join Russia. Legal? Who cares? Some people say 'yes' some say 'no'. Putin See's all these 300,000 small **** swinging people and calls them terrorists and starts unzipping while stating he will protect the Russian speaking people in Ukraine.

During this, Ukaine gives power to some guy who ask for loads of money from the west (Or maybe is offered loads of money from the west). Putin doesn't like the fact that Obama is getting involved in another world affair, trying to control everything by swinging his **** and balls around. Putin doesn't like being told what to do by anyone so eventually whips out his **** and moves his **** shaped tanks and guns near the **** shaped Ukraine border. Obama Threatens this-that-and-the-other and Putin tells him to shut up. This reveals that Obama doesn't quite have the massive **** he thought he had. Europe and Obama start hacking tiny bits off of Putin's **** with sanctions. If sanctions start getting any worse, my job becomes potentially unstable, from which point I won’t be able to feed my cat((s) If my missing cat decides to show up) and I’ll be pretty annoyed.

TL;DR Version: The Obama – Ukraine – Putin situation may eventually mean I can’t feed my cat((s) If my missing cat decides to show up).

Best thing i've read so far this week :D Haha!

Putin: "Errmm excuse me, Ukraine. Could you move your border away from our troops please? Thank you."

More like, Putin: " Errmm excuse me Ukraine. Could you stop having a fascist supported coup government that intends to steal my Black Sea base and drive ten million economy destroying refugees across my border please? Oh and while you're about it will you please pay for your gas. Thank you."

Such a beautiful aircraft. Saw one a few years ago at RAF Fairford RIAT. Did a static and flying display. Will never forget that. As for op. The irony of your post saying 'cool' to having a US nuclear bombers over here again and your sig? Lol

You seem to have a problem with the terminology (no offence intended) an autonomous republic and a Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic are very different things although they are similar in name. I.E the Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea is only really one of those things (Korea) despite having all of them in it's name.

To get an understanding of the relationship between an ASSR like Crimea and an SSR like Ukraine, think of it sort of like Wales/Scotland and the UK, yeah actually that works really well to explain it. USSR>SSR>ASSR>Oblast is pretty much on par with EU>UK>Wales>county (except that the EU doesn't have authority over the UK).

Crimea was an ASSR, when the USSR fell, the Ukrainian SSR became a country and the Crimean ASSR within it became an independent self governing state within it.

The Taranis is a drone. Compared to something like the B2 or the F22 Raptor it's nothing more than a toy. It's just a fact that the US are decades ahead of every other country, including the UK in this field. Drones are useful, but they can never replace a dedicated strike fighter/bomber in a war zone.

It should also be noted that the whole reason Crimea was upgraded back to an ASSR (intendant state) from an Oblast (county) in 1991 was because a referendum was held on it and the Crimeans voted conclusively for greater independence from Ukraine SSR (this can in no way be attributed to Russian meddling as Russia kept control of both either way).

RE the claims of hyperbole ('nuclear capable') I was simply quoting the article.
However, given the range of a B2, I would suggest placing them in the UK would invoke thoughts of first-strike without any detection. When they can fly 6,000 nautical miles without mid-air fuelling (10,000 with) why base them in the UK?
That's what I'd be thinking if I was Putin. That is after all the point to the B2 right? Tactical bombers? Fly them in quick without detection then take out key infrastructure.
Give what's happening and what its in response to, they're hardly intended for attacks of a conventional nature?

It's just a fact that the US are decades ahead of every other country, including the UK in this field.

They are decades ahead in stealth (maybe) Because countries like the UK and Russia decided not to go stealth heavy. I.E the Typhoon is easier to detect than a Raptor but more manoeuvrable and also with very advanced countermeasures. IIRC the Su-35BM has an active radar jammer in it's spine in addition to its countermeasures so although you can find it on radar hitting it is a whole other ball game and would most likely require moving in close for a heat seeker.

The B2 is great for nipping into something-a-stan to overthrow an oil dictator but going up against Russia/US I would rather be in a B1-B or Tu-160 any day of the week.

I have no problem whatsoever.

The Crimea was given to the Ukrainian SSR which was part of the Soviet Union (in effect a Federation). When the Soviet Union collapsed, it became an autonomous region of the Ukraine, which was a unitary state.

You're trying to imply that Crimea was like Jersey, but it was not, it was more Wales. A region of Britain (unitary state) which has a degree of autonomy.
