Time for an upgrade, ordered my new 9800x3d already and have most other bits including the B650 Gigabyte Aorus Elite AX2, (160 quid) but was wondering if I should have gone for the X670 instead to get PCIe 5.0 and an extra m.2 slot?
I think I made the right choice, just want confirmation really (or if people think otherwise, then I'm open to advice) the X670 board I was looking at was again the Gigabyte Elite AX which would be an extra 80/90 quid. I have a 3080 at the moment but will be looking at the 5080/5090 next year.

X670 doesn't have PCI-E 5.0 graphics, so the Aorus Elite AX you're referring to is actually PCI-E 4.0.

Are you likely to ever use it?
Oh, lol. well I probably (possibly) would have noticed that before ordering. Is PCIe 5 worth it though? and with the extra m.2 slot... probably not, I Think I would if I had a 4th slot, but with the savings I could easily just upgrade one of my current drives to a bigger one.

I placed an order for that gigabyte cancelled it for Pg riptide. Something to do with bottom pci slot is slow speed or something

Look for a stock steel legend 650e that's a good board specced well.
I won't ever use the bottom PCIe slot, just the main one. so it being slow speed matters not to me.
it was more if the jump to X670 was worth the extra cash or if I was good on B650 tbh.

Now? No, there aren't any PCI-E 5.0 graphics.

This is how the 4090 (4.0) does with a PCI-E 3.0 board:

Note that confusingly, X870 DOES have PCI-E 5.0 graphics, but for 600 series boards you need X670E.
Oh, thanks for that, looks like 4.0 should be good until I upgrade again then, a whole 1fps fifference on some games between 3.0 and 4.0. :p This stuff gets so confusing lol. I already ruled out the X870 boards because most I looked at either the PCIe x16 gets nerfed or something esle gets disabled just by occupying 2 M.2 slots. just crazy. My B650 board looks good for me then, can spend the savings on a bigger capacity m.2. only have 4tb storage at the moment. nowhere near enough. /s
