Flying club europe next week and just wondered whether it's worth actually using the lounges, or just turning up a bit later for the flight ?

Cheers.

The lounges in T5 are quite nice. I would not turn up early to use them, but if you have the time you may as well. Free coffee, alcohol and grub. Also a chance to grab a paper for the flight.

They have ace showers too, but I assume on a European fight you wont need them.

Hmm depends on what you would otherwise be doing rather than sitting in the airport :p

Can't say I have ever used any of the lounges in any airport in the past few years since I turn up as late as possible most of the time so I don't have to sit around. (only if I can choose my seat online, if there is no online check-in then I turn up early to get a good seat)

You should go to the (I think) Gordon Ramsey restaurant there that overlooks the runway. The food was excellent when I went a few weeks after T5 opened, although they made you eat with incredibly small knives, no doubt so you can't later stab someone with it. I had a very tasty lamb shank with a decent wine and watched planes taking off, probably the best time I've had waiting for a plane :)

Well I'm just using my air miles up and throught I'd give business class a go this time, gotta try these things once :)

Not sure about the T5 lounges but I got a business class upgrade on a flight to Australia and made full use of the Business class lounge in T3 - it was great, plenty of food, drink & free internet access. The lounge at Singapore was a tad better though - massage lounges - full bar - buffet etc.

Are you flying with BA?

If it's there to be used... use it!!! :D

The Concorde Lounge is alright ;)

Straight after security on the right hand side.

  • Intimate dining with elegantly designed booths, serving delicious gourmet meals all day
  • Cocktail Bar
  • Champagne Bar
  • Private dining area with intimate booth style seating
  • State of the art boardroom capable of seating 8 with fully supported flat screen for presentations and PCs
  • Three private cabanas - hotel-style rooms with a comfortable day bed, TV and ensuite bathroom so you can take a nap and freshen up before your flight.
  • The Terrace - a relaxed viewing area where you can enjoy a drink and spectacular views

Lets just say I had my fair share of free food and booze there!

Found some pics online here and there's the BA page here:

the BA card-holders lounge at T5 is rather nice. they serve these lovely bacon-y-thingies (along with Croíssants and most other breakfasty-things).

very luxuriant seatery and decorations. if you'd like some wine (if its late afternoon or the evening) you just help yourself.

all in all, a very civilised experience.

Yes, no chavs, no stress - for winners.

short haul business class on BA is not all that great tbh. If you were flying medium haul i.e eastcoast us, middle east destinations its better as you get the proper business class seats that stretch out into a decent sized beds. Short haul business class just means slightly less rubber vulcanised tasting in flight meal and slightly more room in the seat to fit your ass cheeks into.

T5 lounges are ok, but you can only use 1 of them unless you are a gold BA card holder. The gold card one is a lot better. But still worth going in there for free liquor, grub, paper, shower, dump on a clean comfortable khasi, wipe ass with softer paper aspects
