Howdy,

After going from the 540i to a Smart car, I slowly gravitated back to a BMW.

It is a '01 e46 320Ci with 75k miles. Very nice condition and totally stock. Black leather, and no nasty wood trim.

Alloys are being upped to Mv1's and I will keep the style 154's for the winter months.

The 540i is off to the garage to be fettled through it's MOT then back on the road. I will keep the Smart as it is a hoot, and ace for nipping into town etc.

Only downside is it costs more to insure than the 540 - with double the engine size. Thank you statistics!

What a bizarre idea. Mind you I can't remember a Pinter car thread that wasn't lightly seasoned with wtf.

Lol,

Well the time has come to move on. After 6 years I fancied something else. The 540 is showing it's age now - but still a good solid car.

I did look at the 330's but they had mostly done 130k + miles (not that I mind). This one popped up locally with half the mileage and the condition is immaculate.

Looks pretty good and i bet it was an absolute steal being a 320.

Not sure why you ditched the 540 though, its just an all round better car than what youve bought?

As I don't commute and do maybe 14 miles a week, the 540i was starting to get a bit long in the tooth.

It is a 1997 car, and all though it runs great, there is little point in me having it to run into town. This is why I got the Smart car. The Smart is great to buzz about in, but if I need to move stuff or people then it won't do.

A change in circumstances, means I can drop some money on another car. I was looking at a Lexus is200, but gravitated back to a BMW.

Granted the 540i is probably an all round more capable car, I wanted something a little newer and different. I don't change cars all that often. It cost me £2500 6 years ago, and is still running today. Only a water pump, cat and oil gaskets needed doing.

The 18" wheels stop the steering being stupidy light vs 16" weels. It feels more solid and looks better.

Plus it was cheap :-) Cos I don't need a car I don't spend lots on them.
