On the wagon, sorta
hi all been discussing a thread over in the grfx section about wich card to go for and im looking pretty set on that decision.
last time i was looking into the pc world seriously the 3200+ barton was the monster to have now it seems on my return intel has begun to kick amd in the teeth HARD.
conroe seems to be the flavour that is making the rounds benchmarks look impressive and the most populer chip i seen seems to be the e6600.
im on a slightly lower budget but love the fact that lga775 mobo's love supporting multiple cpu platforms for now and the future so i have decided intel c2d is the way im goinive been looking at benchmarks and charts and my eyes feel like there bleeding :)
but the cpu i can afford not whant but afford is a c2d e2160 still seems like a good choice in some benchy's i have seen results of 3ghz and with the mobo support the way it is i figure i can upgrade to a new model chip form the next famiely released by intel just *** this is the boared im thinking of Gigabyte GA_P35C_DS3R im investing a little more in the hope it oc's well and its feature packed to.

as i really have no clue on the performance of these chips or the am2 ones for that matter.
intel chipsets are somthing i have never dealt with do these seem like reasonable choices i have changed my mind 100 times but i seem to like this combo that is if what i have wread i have understood properly and for £150 for the pair doesnt seem to bad with the features they have and ill only have two put of buying for a further to weeks to allow for the over spend lol!
god i love ground up system rebuilds they do cripple you so.

Stretch higher and aget a E6420. I have got 3.7Ghz out of it :D

unless you are looking to upgrade again in july for Quad in which case get the cheaper series.

;)

So what do you want to know?

If its whether the board and chip are a good combo... then yes, very easy to overclock, very popular combo and leaves you room to upgrade to quad cores in the future. The budget C2D's are great chips and great clockers giving an excellent cost : performance ratio, which would be very hard to beat.

To be honest its all relative, it all depends on budget, need and want... usually in that order. :D
