I have been out of PC gaming for a few years.

I have a budget to get me started of £600

Will need everything inc OS and monitor.

I'm looking for good base to upgrade on later.
No interest in OCing. Happy to go the AMD route.

will be playing Battlefield and Black ops III

What does the forum think.

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £614.86
(includes shipping: £0.00)

Same size monitor but is £20 cheaper to add money else where.

Problem with AMD is, there isn't really an upgrade path and they all lack when compared to Intel, the G3258 is a decent dual core and can be overclocked on it's stock cooler and also means you can then grab a 4690k in the future and you have a decent CPU.

GPU wise the 280 is strong at 1080p, alternative would be a Nvidia 960 which would perform just as well. Could switch the HDD for a SSD and get larger storage at a later day, the Samsung EVO 250GB @ £59.99 is a decent price.

Overall: Better PSU for the long run, better case IMO and you can upgrade both the CPU and GPU easily.

Any reason not to go for the 3260? https://www.overclockers.co.uk/inte...ocket-lga1150-processor-retail-cp-605-in.html

Its a few pounds less and I'm pushing my budget at the mo.

I'm not sure, but the G3258 is normally a great choice as when clocked to 4Ghz it performs very well. As it's a base for a future upgrade downgrading slightly won't harm you too much in performance I wouldn't have thought.

You can save some money if you downgrade the board to a B or H but that removes any ability to overclock and for reselling parts and overclocking I'd rather keep the Z board to upgrade into.
