Hello All,

It's been a while, had some reconfiguring to do on the home front. Glad to see I didn't drop too far down the standings :o

Sorry rich99million, I seem to recall doing this to you last time. Just before you were about to stomp me, I fired the farm back up and slowly edged away.

Got my PS3 crunching now, figured it's a better crunching machine than a game box :p It completed it's first WU early this morning, a whoping 287pts :D I think they need to re-think that one.

The rest of the farm will be up today on CPU cores, then slowly moving back to CPU+GPU configurations. I should have left the ATI conf's along !!!

It seems there have been quite a few changes since I was last looking at this. The SMP clients have come a long way and I see some rather substantial WU's on the list for them.

Quads have come down to a reasonable price level now, may have to look at swapping out a few C2D's for a couple of quads.

It's good to be Back !!

That's it - I QUIT!!!

hehe jk :p :D

Glad to have you back - sounds like you're bringing a nice bit of powah with you so it's all good :)
If I'd not been messing around with regular clients for the last month or so I would have gone past long ago - well actually you'd probably just have come back a bit earlier :D

I'll be adding 3 more PS3's toward the end of the month (provided my stock sale doesn't go bottom's up :D ) after my initial testing is done. I want to be sure I can run them without a Tele / Monitor attached (power and comms rack is set up for 8 boxes). I've gotten my hands on a multiplex Vid/Aud system. What I'm testing, and maybe sombody already knows, does the PS3 have to have a Tele-Monitor attached to it in order to fold. I turned the Tele off last night, and it seemed to have no adverse effects. Next step is to disconnect the AV cables and run it for a a WU and see what happenes.

Basically, I want to set them off and running and forget about them. I will say, the thing is quiet, doesn't push out near the heat of my PC's and at 900 ppd, it's a very attractive alternative to PC folding farms. PS3 prices in the U.S. are down to about 450.00 USD ~ 225 GBP for the small HD version w/Blue-Ray. That's very close to what I paid for my ATI-1950 XTX.

The ps3 does _not_ need a monitor attached to fold. I had one in the loft folding away for about a month. However, you do have to keep an eye on them because sometimes the network connection (wifi) can bork out and instead of retrying the ps3 just hangs there waiting for user intervention.

It was okay for me with one ps3 because I just kept an eye on the EOC stats for a regular stream of 287 pointers but monitoring more is going to be a pain. :(
