I'm loosing my X800 tomorrow, It was actually my brothers and i'd been using it while he saved up for his other components. Conroe, Etc.

Anyways, I'm going to have to go back to a Geforce 5200 256mb Card for a few months, Until I can afford myself a new card.

What games are there out there for me?

I'm losing Oblivion. :( And I'm losing X2 :( I'm losing HL2 and CS: Source

Anyways, What old school games do you think I should get myself to pass the months before I can afford a new card.

I have Birth of the Federation, Imperium Galactica 2 and Master of Orion 2.

Which are fantastic games, Any other recommendations?

I like space games, But I'm more a fan of the strategy than the flight sim.

Thanks :)

You poor guy, i feel your pain.
To be honest with you, I've no idea what games you'll be able to play. I guess HL & CS1.6 will be on the agenda.

I'm currently playing Freelancer, which is a space game albeit rather lacking in strategy. Seems pretty decent and would probably run OK as it's around 4 years old. I'm running 1680x1050, 8xS AA (transparency+gamma correct), 16xAF, high quality with everything on max and framerate is always above 60 except when docked, albeit on a 7900gto. But it's certainly not demanding compared to games from recent years.

Freespace 2 is, IMO, the greatest space game ever made and would also be worth checking out. Should run flawlessly on a 5200 with some of the excellent SCP mods.

I had a spare FX5200 from an upgrade kicking around at work the other day which I overclocked.

Have some fun with it, if its passive wack a fan on it and overclock the nuts out of it ;)

Great games which will work on it...

Quake II
Quake III
UT2003/2004
Classic HL

I used to play hl2 CSS on a ti4200 so a 5200 should work ? Will it play bf2 maybe even

try -dxlevel 70 in the hl2 command line settings. The steam forums will have a load of settings you can use to play

all those can be run on a GF2mx (well i havent tried UT2004). Is the 5200 really that bad

The Geforce 5 were crap anyway so the 5200 being the lowest end chip must have been truly craptacular.

Though seriously they were around the same performance levels as Geforce 4 MX cards but with newer tech. Most games that don't use complex shaders or shadows should run fine or if the game has some sort of DX7 mode, that would work too.

Yup

This card has support for Directx 9 but no speed in it at all. Like said its slower than most of the Geforce 4 range apart from the MX's (In most cases the MX440s are quicker)

At work I see so many of these FX5200s in pre-built machines which stuggle to run almost everything.

You could run UT2K3/4 on a 5200 as suggested, but on low details. I remember (back in nub nub days) trying to play UT2K3 on my short-lived 5200 and being upset when it wouldn't run on max details :D
