You do sound like a bit of a fan boy lol, no i understand what you mean and i have been torn between the 2. except as i understand it the phenom will be better in the long run, and is more efficient.

i dont see how the Phenom will be longer in the "long term". some people have noticed that they are slower than their Athlon counterparts, which isnt great. Intel have the best processors at the moment. even a bargain big E2200 will show a phenom the door. I was an AMD fan but at the moment they're not doing enough to get my cash

I can only think it refers to the possibility that the AM2 socket will be around for longer than socket 775. I haven't heard anything definitive either way (and can't be bothered to check the road maps) but I'd guess that by the time it becomes an issue it would be as well to simply replace the whole system anyway.

The P45 will be the last LGA775 motherboard, it will be replaced by the X58 Chipset which more or less doubles the pin count. But AMD are known to go through Sockets anyway, i dont see it as a valid argument. LGA775 boards will be around for a while longer yet. By the time its time to upgrade the intel or the AMD, your probably looking at another board anyway
