They haven't released this yet, there are some familiar to me rendering glitches in it..... but they did show it at GDC 2015, this is a cam recording but decent quality.

Its a good Engine showpiece meant for VR, an update thats coming to CryEngine very soon.

An interesting thing about this is its name, "Back to Dinosaur Island", "X-Isle: Dinosaur Island" i think was one of the first things CryTek did, it was the precursor to Far Cry and then Crysis, the rest is history.... perhaps nothing significant about that but an interesting choice of name, perhaps CryTek might actually make what was at the time a brilliant tech demo into a game this time round?

I dont get it, the rift and all is cool and stuff but its basically just head tracking with a bit of 3d i think isnt it. To be really virtual reality you need to be able to have virtual hands and legs like the lawnmower man kinda thing where you go in game look around ooh nice but can also have virtual hands and look at ur hand and move ur fingers and see them move onscreen etc and you can use them to pick things up and use things. Also u need to be able to walk or run about with ur legs as using any sort of pad to do anything i reckon will just break any immersion VR from just googles will do.

Does that make sense?

Have you tried VR across the multitude of demos? Some do an amazing job without these features, despite having relatively poor graphics, screen door effect and motion sickness. The immersion can be very impressive indeed... so come the final release of the Rift and Vive, with the addition of their own controllers, this will be enhanced ten fold. I think ineivtably it will end up going the way you suggest, with full on body immersion further down the line... but that is years away. Don't underestimate how impressive VR already is though. It most certainly is not merely "head tracking with a bit of 3D" lol! That does it a major disservice.

VR Walk Pads and VR Gloves. ;)
 
Hmm. I think CryEngine is almost irrelevant at this juncture.

The financial issues put them so far behind in implementing Vulkan, DX12 and porting to OSX and Linux ... all of these issues have seen them lose a lot of potential projects to Unity and Unreal, and given the delay in implementation of the above, it's also a long way behind other non-licensed modern engines like Frostbite, or smaller licensed ones like Oxide.

Hopefully their new backers have the cash or patience to push them through implementing the new APIs and platform ports ... I really don't like the way Unreal Engine games look at all, or their closeness to NVIDIA ... and IMO there needs to be at least 3 big licensed engines - Unreal and Unity aren't enough.
