Just noticed the Back to School rebates were showing on the online store.

Has that just been sneaked out or did I miss the big song and dance about it? I could have sworn it wasn't there the other day.

Ah, that's nice of Apple. I wonder if we'll see any slight specification bumps to the MBP range over the next week.

Fingers crossed, eh?

And they show that you're held in contempt because they expect a portion of buyers to be too lazy (or forgetful) to redeem them :o

I saw this a few days ago, its sealed the deal to get a macbook or macbook pro in the next few weeks.... I really fancy an ipod touch strangly (the green zen is starting to give out)

So, let me get this right.

With a rebate, you initially pay for the iMac, Macbook or whatever, as well as the iPod ? Then you get the money you paid extra for the iPod back in a few months? bah.

Yes. It's a very common scheme in the USA, not just by Apple. Mail in rebates are the norm.

Rebates are a shocking tactic - the very definition of a company screwing over the consumer :(

Why so? The only way I can see you getting screwed is if the company goes bust before you get the rebate or you are not quite up to the task of claiming it. I would take a rebate on most things rather than get nothing back.

What's the difference between a rebate and just offering x amount of the normal price? Or are Apple just hoping people don't claim for the rebate?

Do you have to shell out for both first, and then send off to get your money back?

I think that's already been well established in here.

/edit - Too slow, damn me for typing more than a single word answer :)
