So i've recorded the second and third on sky+ but they dont seem to have the first. :(

Maybe a stupid question but do i need to see the first film first or does it not really matter? :)

Yes, you have to. The 2nd one doesn't really make much sense anyway (any movie that has to have the main character explain what's going on half way through the film is always a bad sign) and it'll make even less sense if you don't see the first.

I think the 2nd one is one of my favourite films ever, though.

EDIT: For fans: http://www.cracked.com/video_18203_why-back-to-future-secretly-horrifying.html

If you're going to watch them (and you should) then it only makes sense if you watch them all, skipping the first film in a trilogy is never usually a good idea, occasionally the last film might be worth avoiding but not the other way round.

Woody__: I'd never really thought about it in that much depth but it is a bit disturbing when you think of it in those terms.

You'd be mad not to see the first one anyway. Watched it with the missus again the other night. One of my faves for sure!

One of those trilogies that refers to things from each of the films and the roles each character in the first plays in the other films is quite amusing - especially Biff/Griff!

i saw all 3 in a back to back special at my local cinema years ago.

Brilliant films, you really need to see the 1st one as the 2nd is an obvious parody, the 3rd is more standalone but seriously 1 and 2 are just brilliant.

It's one of the few trilogies that does actually need to be watched as such.

Indeed. They form a very cohesive whole and while the second isn't as good as the first, and the third is more of a Western than a time travel film, they still all hang together really well.

Love the series and glad it's getting a re-release and showing in the cinemas.

The first is my favourite but all three have a different theme to them and it's definitely worth watching number 1 before 2; they're linked so closely so it's cool to see how they incorporated footage from the first into what's happening in number 2. :)
