Back-up drive, leave connected or not?

So I bought a 4TB Ext HDD and I have backed up all my 3 main HDDs to it as images. Now that it's done should i disconnect the back-up drive? Any benefit to leaving it plugged in? or not?

P.S. I plan to do this back-up every month on the main drive and every other month as needed on the other drives.

Leave it disconnected, that way if you get infected with cryptolocker type ransomware it isn't going to be able to encrypt your backups. Only connect and power on the drive when you are creating new backups.

I've actually taken your advice and gone one step further. I've removed the EXT HDD and will take it to work with me tomorrow. Will store it there. In case I have a fire or something. Bit extreme but easy to do.
