Just wanted to know if I am doing a 'backup' the right way. Plus is this the most sensible route.

Just a home use, but I have lot of photos that are important to me, plus I have ripped all my music collection to the computer which I play through a wireless music player.

Using Windows 7

Main PC has a 250GB drive for photos, music and videos.
Another drive for OS and programs. (64GB Raptor)

I have a external buffalo 1TB HD Drive which every now and then I connect to my computer (USB 2.0) and copy all photos, music and videos over to etc.

I have to sit in front of the PC when doing this as the external HD already has of course a lot of what I am already copying on already. So I have to keep clicking when windows asks me.

Is there anything better.

You can run scheduled back ups with Windows 7 which you don't have to supervise. It will create a system image and a full backup of all files. Set it up to back up once a week, then leave the external drive plugged in. It will throw up an error message if the backup fails to complete for any reason.

google for synctoy

worked well for me for years, scheduling is also an option, but if like me your PC isnt on at regular intervals I find this works well.
