I am going to become responsible for backing up the colleges Moodel server.
Some of the other places have sugested using Shadow Copy as part of the solution. But I will be running this on a Linux platform, is there anything similar to shadow copy for linux.
The MySQL Administrator shoule have no problem been on linux?
Then would you back this up to tape or a buffalo station?

The SQL data is backed up in 2 ways…
Shadow Copy again backs up all the RAW data files… basically all the files MySQL uses etc. I also use MySQL Administrator (a free piece of software which is really useful) to run automated backups of the whole Moodle database once a night which produces a text .sql files which is in turn backed up by Shadow Copy.
