I'm thinking about buying a Macbook Pro. At the moment I back everything up to a HP Microserver running Windows which is backed up by Crashplan. Would I still be able use the same setup to back up the Macbook?
Not really. Unless you want a headache. Which is why I don't backup my Macs to any of my NAS's. I back them up to a time capsule. Media goes on the NAS's.
But it is possible to use the HP Microserver as an AFP server.
You can also do it the other way, get TM to use unsupported volumes (Google is your friend to find out how). However, I'd personally say this method is more risky; with the AFP method you at least have "official" support and the Mac won't see anything different.
