Im all in favour of an employer performing due diligence etc, but I'm getting increasingly frustrated with the amount of questions being asked and not just that, being asked to prove why I was not working between date such and such. Not just give them an answer such as "on holiday" or "looking for work", but actual evidence such as receipts and job applications.

Apparently Im meant to keep e-mails from 2007 to prove I was looking for work in between the many 3 - 18 month contracts I've had.

I'm this close to just saying forget it and finding another job, but this is the second one who I have come across who are asking. Am I over reacting? I don't mind a few questions, but I am on perhaps 14 or 15 replies to this checking agency now and I started 3 weeks ago.

If you're a contractor then they're your 'client' not your 'employer' surely?

If it is finance related then yes they'll often want gaps accounted for, usually isn't too difficult to prove though.

Tell them you were working for me on a project, email me what you said you were doing and I'll pass that on to them

I actually went back 10 years on my CV and there was 7 years between college and the first job on the cv, they later asked me what i'd done in that time (i'd already got the job) and they said they were just wondering because they thought I might have inside for drugs or something.... never touched them but you know, i must have that kind of look....
