Backing up Active Directory Info

Hi all,

I want to back up our AD directory without using NT backup. Is there a way to do this?

Wrong forum... maybe this would be beeter in windows software?

Unless you're going to use another back up util (like backup exec or arcview for example), then the short answer is no.

why would you not want to use ntbackup? As said i don't know of any way to backup the system state without ntbackup or 3rd party backup solutions

Not without a third party app such as Symantec Backup Exec.

Because the registry is cracked so bad and from what I can see I cant de-select that in NTbackup which means when I restore to a fresh machine I'm going to end up with my shot registry again

But quite a lot of AD info is stored in the registry, you need to back it up...

The machine can obviously boot, so you're better off fixing the problem rather than doing something drastic. I take it you only have one DC?

AD isnt that large so I'm just going to start again

set up another server as a DC, migrate all AD, DNS and the FSMO roles across and then demote and remove the old server.
