Backing up an OS

Im having some problems with both Ghost and Acronis.
I can backup the drives fine with either, but when i restore them, instead of getting the login area, instead i get just the blue background and the windows logo.
Anyone know why?

use Acronis True Image Home and make a Bootable Rescue Media then boot from it then backup the OS..

Yeah i've done that, but thats not what i mean.

I can restore the image, but its when i boot windows (xp), when the logon screen should appear, all i get is the blue background and the windows xp logo
