Hi,
I have a laptop that now has a corrupt Windows XP Home installation, I can't boot into windows through safe mode etc etc.

Because it was an OEM installation when I bought the Laptop I also don't have the XP home CD to perform a repair.

I can however perform a Sony Vaio recovery from the HDD, however it will erase all data. Is there a way I can backup my data somehow without being able to go into windows ? Perhaps through a bootable CD burning tool or a bootable networking tool.

Removing the HD and putting it in another PC is not an option :/

Thanks guys

You'll need to buy a usb hard disk then boot a CD Linux distro like Ubuntu and copy the files to the external usb disk.

Depending on how much data he has to backup, he could boot from a CD distro of Linux and use a USB key of adequate size which would work out cheaper than an ext. hdd.
