Backing up / Extracting SMS from iPhone?

I want to be able to get all the SMS message off of my iphone, preferably using my Mac. There seems to be a few solutions out there for jailbroken phones, but not for standard iPhones.

Any ideas?

Itunes backs them up doesn't it?

Sorry, didn't mean backing up really. I want to be able to download them off of my iphone then view them. I've found a few progs, but all charge for the privelege. Does any app do it for free?

diskaid copy “sms.db” u also need sqlite database browser for pc/mac use sqlite to open the export save to excel to open it i think you dont see names who its from just the numbers sent from

in user - Library - SMS - sms.db

Just to reiterate that PhoneView will do it as Pioneer said above. Other suggestions in the comments.
