Just a quick question about game saves in the event of wiping a hard drive or installing a game on a new pc. Is it as easy as locating the save game folder eg Documents>witcher3>gamesaves, and copying them over to a separate drive? I assume it is but wanted to check.

If you play through steam make sure your cloud is turned on as it'll save the saves on their servers.

If you want a local backup yes just copy the files over, reinstall the game and dump them in the same place.

Some games put their saves in your c:\users\username\appdata folders so make sure to check in there as well.

Word of warning re: Steam Cloud. Ensure the games you are playing actually use Steam Cloud. Wolfenstein: The New Order doesn't which was a pain when I wanted to play it on different rigs!

Don't really know of any others that don't (GTA5 maybe?), but TNO was a fairly recent AAA title, so you would expect it to use this very simple feature.

LOTS of games still don't use cloud saving, and some that do only allow a small number of saves to be uploaded. Always do another backup, Dropbox, memory stick or secondary HDD when possible.

I have used the cloud, but as a saftey measure i want to back up the files from my documents folder. If I copy them onto another drive, is it as easy as copying them back? or will there be all sorts of registry issues etc. Its just that I am 40 hours into the witcher 3 and it would be tragic to lose it.
