Backing up games in Steam

hello.

If I back up a game in steam, reinstall windows and restore the game, does it preserve my game progress and saves etc?

The game does not feature cloud saves.

Saves are usually stored elsewhere, depends on the game itself.

Best thing to do is to search on Google for the games save location and back the save up as well to be on the safe side.

My concern is that even if I backup the saved games when I reinstall the game it won’t recognise my scenario progress, even if I have the saved game to prove it!

Make sure you backup the .acf files as well without those you need to redownload every single game again even if you have the files on your PC somewhere. The .acf contains encrypted data related to your Steam account & the games ownership to you!

says it supports Steam Cloud save. Properties menu. Doesn't specify if it's in game or not however.

This is an absurdly good tool for save backing up. Knows how to backup super obscure games and even modded games that use seperate save locations.

Thanks for all the help, turns out Railway Empire does support cloud sync so all was well post reinstallation!
