Backing up iPhone app files...

Hey all.

I was wondering if it's possible to backup files when performing a restore on an iPhone, such as saved profiles for your games. I've been stung once before when I restored my iPhone and lost all my progress on my games and I don't want to make the same mistake again.

Trouble is, the iPhone is pulling the old "this device is not authorised" and wants me to perform a full restore before it'll let me sync. Why Apple couldn't have made it easier to use i'll never know but hey, that's the way it is.

I've got music on there, which is backed up. All the apps can be re-downloaded if needed, so they're of no concern.

So, what are my options?

Once you've downloaded the apps they're yours for good. Same with iTunes.

It's just that when you re-download the app, you don't keep your saves.

Apple really need to fix this, seems a pretty large oversight to me?

Well it died in the night and killed itself totally. When I got up this morning it considered itself "deactivated" (I don't have a clue why) and refused to do anything until I connected it to iTunes.

Upon doing so, iTunes did a restore and wiped EVERYTHING. All my game saves, gone, again.

To say i'm angry is an understatement.

Not this time. It didn't give me the option to restore from a backup, or to create one before it did the restore.

Then again, the phone was useless unless I did exactly what iTunes said.
