backing up iPhone text messages ?

hi,

I have almost a yrs worth of conversation between a tenant & I that I'm going to need to keep for legal reasons. I also want to upgrade to the new iPhone 6 when it comes out and sell of my iPhone 5S.

Is there anyway to get all my SMS from my existing 5S to the new 6 when it comes out ? I don't believe messages are backed up during a backup and restore are they ?

They are. Just backup and restore, and they'll be on there (provided nothing goes wrong of course). Just in case, backup both via iCloud and locally in iTunes.

You could also use a program called MobileEdit to copy the messages to xml/text files as well.
