My main PC upstairs has a 1tb HDD, and my HTPC downstairs has a 320gb and soon a 1.5tb HDD too, and they're networked together, hardwired through my Sky router.

I'd like to use the 1.5tb to back up the important data from my main PC over the network, automatically and incrementally if possible, but have no idea where or how to start, what software to use, or anything really, any help much appreciated! :D

robocopy will do many things, but you'll want to use that in conjunction with Task Scheduler. You may want something more powerful though.

Another thumbs up for SyncToy.

From memory the SkyRouter has 4x 100Mbit ethernet ports. You could buy a 1Gbit(1000Mbit) switch for £20/£30 and that would decrease the time it takes to perform a backup between your machines. Providing that the NICs on both machines supports Gigabit ethernet.
