Backing up websites / databases

Hello,
I currently am in the process of building a website, and Im wondering what sort of automatic backup solutions there can be.
It is a vbulletin forum with php. I have SSH access and the ability to run CRON jobs (Not that it means much to me tbh) and im looking at a way of backing up nightly to a PC I run on my home network (runs WHS). I need to backup the website contents and the MySQL databases.

Im new to this, so let me know whats possible and how!

Do you have a control panel like cPanel or Directadmin as part of your hosting panel?

If you do there will be backup option in there that will let you backup to your home directory on the server or FTP it to a different place.

Grab some backup space from somewhere like BQ Backup and FTP (or SFTP it) to there.

Yeah, thats gonna be my first port of call, but im after a way of doing it automatically.

Most of the control panels should let you cron a backup
