Backlight bleed, how much is acceptable?

Well, my 2 new monitors arrived today, 2 Dell 2007WFP's (A04 revision). I can't honestly say they were everything I expected them to be.

One of them has a flicker, very slight but when you spend your whole day looking at a PC screen doing artwork, you notice these things and they become annoying quickly. The worst thing though is the amount of backlight bleed, horrendous amounts (to me anyway, it may just be normal ) in all 4 corners of both screens.

So I am wondering, should I have expected a bleed free monitor or is it the case that they all have it, just in different amounts?

I'll try and get some pictures, I just need something to give me a full black screen with no borders. I tried IE but it left the right side and bottom borders. What does everyone else use for their backlight bleed tests?

Screen saver > Blank should do it.

Backlight bleed is present to some extent on all LCD's but it varies an aweful lot. When you post some pictures we'll be able to say if it's bad. I have a Dell S2309W that has some minor bleed at the top and bottom of the screen, but it's barely visible even when watching 2.35:1 Blu-Rays with the black bars top and bottom.

Flicker however is NOT normal, and if only one of the monitors does it, i would personally send it back. It could be that there's a fault with the CCFLs.

Soz they are blurred, I was hand holding them.

I agree with Monstermunch, that is aweful bleed.

Here is a quick pic of my S2309W to compare, i'm sorrry it's an aweful photo but my camera is absolutely useless. The dark blob is my reflection, the lighter area at the bottom is the reflection of my desk. My room is very dimly lit btw, it's just the photos is so overexposed it makes it look bright. I can't get this camera to take a picture in the dark without it coming out even more blurry and useless.

Screensaver > Blank is kinda grey (CRT here so can see it properly).

If you want total black use Paint and fill a canvas same size as your screen with black or use Monitor tests in Everest.
