Got an old Hyundai 19" widescreen monitor with a backlight that is flickering rather a lot now...

Is this a sign of impending death or could it be a bad power/VGA cable?
There is also a quiet hiss while it is on now that I've never noticed before....

Gave me an excuse to order a new 24"er regardless.. haha.

It's getting worse and worse and darker and darker. I just want it to last till Monday when my new BenQ 24" comes :D

If the whole screen flickers and it is becoming dark it is probably an inverter + backlight problem but if the flicker is on one side only then it is mostly the backlight.
Faulty backlight is not worthwhile to repair cause of the difficulty on finding a replacement and when you find one the price is likely around 15%-20% of a new
cheap comparable monitor and the difficulty of the actual replacement of the backlight as you need to almost all disassemble the monitor in order to get access
to the backlight and you must also do this in a cleanroom as you dont want dust contaminant inside the panel when you disassemble/reassemble it.
Dont throw it in the bin though instead sell it in the bay you might still get a tenner for it to buy some cookie :D

Yeahhh it's getting progressively work. Got the brightness whacked right up now and it's darker than usual with lots of flicker. New monitor comes tommorrow. Can't wait for higher resolution :)
