Backlight not working, what to do?

Which laptop is this for? Where did you buy the inverter, is the new one 100% working? It is possible to get a DOA inverter even if its new.

It's for an Acer 5920. There is no other way for me to test the inverter is working than to put it in my laptop I'm afraid. From that point of view it's the same as my old one which means either both inverters are faulty or something else is wrong.

Sounds like maybe the tube has failed. Had this on a thinkpad and in the end, I stripped down the LCD panel and resoldered the wire onto the end. It wasn't the easiest job in the world however!

Known problem with the 5920 is the screen cable gets damaged at the hinge so this is a possible cause, although it could also be the tube or even a fault on the motherboard without having parts to swap out it is hard to say which part to change unless you are handy with a multi meter.

I don't think it's the screen cable although I'll check it anyway. I was there when the backlight stopped working and it happened when my laptop was shutting down but my charger started to charge just as it was about to turn off. The backlight went out and hasn't worked since.

It does sound like the screen cable if the inverter isn't faulty. Check the cable and ensure a solid connection. The backlight is seperate from the screen and not related to the graphics card so its directly linked to the cable powering the inverter and the inverter itself.
