Backpack for MBA M1 or Magic Keyboard for iPad Pro 11"

I'm starting a new volunteering position requiring a laptop or iPad for note-taking, and I'm wondering what the best option is. The MBA backpack will be cheaper, but the Magic Keyboard for the iPad Pro is probably more convenient.

What would you do?
