Backtrack 3 and usb Problem

Hi,

I have a 1gb usb stick that i am trying to get backtrack 3 on, i downloaded the usb file from remote-exploite. Extracted the Boot and BT3 folders, put them into my memory stick and run the bootinst.bat file.

But when i plug it into my laptop it just ignores it and goes into ubuntu[OS]
In BIOS theres only the option to;
1. Harddrive
2. CD
3. Floppy.

Nothing else in boot menu.

Any ideas?

Your BIOS will need to support booting from USB, if its an old board it might not work

See if there's any hot keys you can press on boot, for example on my BIOS F11 shows a boot device screen that lists usb sticks for selection.

I would suggest just burning backtrack to CD if you can.

Yep, my laptop is pretty old, i had it on a cd but it wipes everything you do so i wanted it on a usb really.

If its crucial to you, give http://www.plop.at/en/bootmanager.html a look, its a bootloader that you can burn to cd, which (from what ive read) will allow you to boot off a usb device. Worth a shot if you don't mind the hassle

Failing that you could install it to disk and dual boot it?
