I have an asus netbook got bored of windows and wanted to put linux on there

the main purpose of the netbook is

* browse the net
* watch youtube
* listen to music
* RDP to other machines

So I put the latest version of Ubuntu on there and it was so slow (1GB of ram)

so backtrack it is for educational purposes :)

now installed backtrack latest version on there which is a variant of ubuntu anyway here's the problems

1. when it starts up there is no x server so I login and then type startx

but how do I get xserver to startup automatically?

2. Which other linux distro would suit my purposes on the netbook?

You could use any distro for that really pretty much. Check out Mint, Magela, Ubuntu, Fedora and Debian...

For the RDP stuff check out PAC, VNC, FreeNX, Rdesktop, Tsclient or Remmina depending on what you want to do.
