Looking at trading in my 20gb 360 at the weekend for a new 250gb slim. However I'm trying to work out the best way to copy my data across.

I have only got a 4gb usb stick to hand and all my data won't fit on it, but wondering if I can copy a bit at a time and store on my PC. The alternative is a post I've read about using a crossover cable to link my laptop directly to my xbox and copy the data that way. That sounds good, but obviously I want to know that I will be able to copy it back again onto the new one.

Not sure what data is stored with the gamertag as well, because noticed a few conflicting posts regarding transferring licenses. Some say to use the transfer tool, which I won't be able too as I won't have both boxes together, and another says you don't need too as long as you sign back in with same gamertag.

Can anyone advise please.

Thanks

The data that you have on it, Can any of it be redownloaded again? I'd say just transfer what you need to, Gamertag maybe and all gamesaves, then redownload everything else.

You can also copy a bit over at a time onto the USB stick, but you have to remember to keep the files that it creates together.

network port would auto-sense?

I was just thinking about maybe copying each savegame stuff at a time. i.e MW2 in one go, Forza another go. Just not sure about anything I have downloaded like map packs.

Only game I've downloaded is a solitaire game for my gf who would kill me if I lost it lol

i dont think its possible to transfer your xbox 360 saves/demos/arcades or anything else directly to your computer/laptop via a network cable. best bet would be continually shift stuff using the 4gb stick or if you could get your hands on a bigger 16GB usb stick or a spare usb harddrive it could copy a lot more and probably quicker. that or get the transfer kit?
