Hi.

I have tried to find the information on the Microsoft web site and by looking on the Apple web site but I have not had any luck so I was wondering if anybody can help.

I use the Vista Backup and Restore Center tool to back up my data to an external hard drive. First of all is this the best way of backing up files or does anybody have any better ways or software advice to complete this?

Also does using the Vista tool ensure that my iTunes library has been backed up or do I need to complete this manually?

Thanks for your help. :)

If by iTunes library you mean the actual music files, then yes as long as it is in the path specified in the backup job (it should be, unless you've moved it somewhere obscure) then the files will be copied. As far as I can remember it backs up your home/users folder.

Is it the best way to back up? Well, there are many third party programs that are more configurable and versatile but at the end of the day the true test of any backup routine is how effectively you can perform a recovery from it.

Consider attemping to restore to another machine from your backup and see if it works as expected. If it does, great and if it doesn't then you've got the opportunity to improve it. If Vista backup does the job then there is no need to buy something else.

Better to find out now that you forgot something than on disaster day.
