Hi All
Im in the process of updating my NAS which has led me to think about my backup solution too.
Currently, i have a bunch of external drives that connect via a usb hub to an intel nuc thats always on. When i want to run a backup, i flick the switch to switch on the extension powering the usb drives and usb hub. I manually run the backup, then "eject" the drives in Windows, then power off.
When i upgrade the drives in the NAS i then usually get a new external drive.
With the new NAS build, ill probably need to replace two of the drives, so first i thought about putting those in external enclosures and using them for backups, this would probably work fine, but then i had the thought about putting all the drives in a single case and using sata to usb cables to connect them to a usb hub and psu all enclosed in the case. It might be a neater solution than a bunch of usb drives.
I was hoping to find a pcb or something that has a bunch of sata connections, and a usb port and that is powered by a molex or something, allowing me to power the HDDs using the usual sata power connectors. The only one i can find is this one by lindy:
Lindy sell direct, so rather than link that, its like this:

Sata to usb cables are common, but ones that allow you to add the 12v for a 3.5" hdd are not so common. I can get them from china for about a fiver each.
Ive researched DAS systems but most conversations usually end up recommending a nas. But i dont need another nas to back up the nas.
Any thoughts from you guys? How do you backup your NAS?
Thanks
