Backup drive cant delete data?

okay i have a 300gb usb backup drive which was formatted under vista, ive plugged it into my imac and it shows up okay but im unable to delete any of the data on it or even reformat it, when i looked at the info it states there are no owners, anyone know how i change these permissions?

Have you tried formatting the drive using the Disk Utility? You can change the permissions here too.

Can be found in Applications; Utilities; Disk Utility.

I'm guessing you've formatted it in NTFS, so to be able to use it in Windows and Mac you'd need to format it under FAT32.

However, if you just want to use it for a Mac try using OS X (Journaled) as it will be quicker, and won't limit you to 4GB-per-file limitations.

nice one all the options were greyed out at first but after selecting raid and going back to the erase option it all worked ok, still getting to grips with this new os, thanks
