Backup Exec issue

I have two servers one with Backup Exec 10 on and another primarily a data server, the issue I am having is, I want to back up data from the data server onto the backup server.

Ok, I can point the backup software over to the data server using the User-Defined option which is easy enough, but whenever it tries to backup anything I get an error say:

A Remote Agent for Windows Servers license is required for protecting remote servers with this edition of Backup Exec.
Please contact your vendor for information on protecting remote servers with this edition of Backup Exec.
Access to the device \\[server]\[share]$ is not authorized with this edition of the product.

This is a new server and has recently been built and had BE put on.

As im sure most IT guys out there know, each day without backups gets a bigger and bigger worry.

Any ideas?

you need the remote agent license in order to backup remote computers, and if you want to back up specific applications like SQL and exchange, you will need remote agents for them. They are not expensive though. You also might want the Advanced open file option, which will back up open and locked files. More money though.

Actually, not sure what this means but I notice on the SQL server which is installed, under current server on SERVER\BCKPEXEC it has Server Agent as an option?

Does this mean the Agent installed?

I can't remember if specific agents like SQL agent include the remote agent.

the last time i bought the RA for windows, it was £133 each. a little price to pay for keeping your data safe :)

Thanks Baz, unfortuently this is critical this gets done today, so Im going to have to transfer the files from one server to t'other and back them up on the server itself.

Ill be here all night at 10 mbps :(

Damn thing. :o
