Backup from MAC to NAS and allow PC to access files ?

As the fairly long title asks, how or what software can I use to backup from MAC to my NAS and allow a PC to access those files, thus requiring a file backup rather than an image based backup ?
Reason for asking is that I've acquired a second hand Mac Pro and the wife will use this for photo editing, but she still has a PC as she has a few apps that have no Mac equivalent. What I want to do now is put all her data on the Mac and back it up to the NAS, and then for the couple of files she may need get her to access the NAS from her windows PC and use the files from there.
I've stumbled upon Carbon Copy Cloner but couldn't find any detail on whether it backs up to image or to files. I saw Chronosync which seems like it may do this, but again it's not very clear on whether the files are put in an image or just as files
Any help much appreciated, thanks !

I'd prefer her to have her data on the Mac and have the NAS as the backup, we tried keeping data in one place before and it turned out to be a mini disaster so I insist on 2 copies of all her files

I do this with a Drobo.

Drobocopy (an app), backs up folders that I pick and choose from my HD connected to my Mac. And my PC (or any networked computer) can see the files on the drobo, they are non OS dependant.
