Backup Hell...

My storage HDD went pop today, luckily it's only a couple of weeks old and I didn't get rid of the old one yet so have only lost a week or twos worth of stuff.

I did set up a backup of the whole drive last year to my Synology NAS but it ran out of space quickly apparently (it didn't seem to delete anything..)

Now when I go into the maintenance section of control panel I get this

Capture.jpg

I press options and nothing happens. I don't see any way of actually editing it (or even removing the warning).

Anyone else have this problem? Is it something to do with an upgrade from windows 8 to 8.1 and the removal of file recovery?

I'm also having trouble trying to work out how to actually view what is in the sinology backup folder. it's currently taking up 500GB of space and I can't actually see how to get rid of it...

Probably.

What method are you using to delete the 500GB of data?

You may have to 'Show hidden files'.

Consider switching to better backup software and set-up email notification.

I knew it had run out of space but it was on my "to do" list, most stuff is backed up on my NAS so it wasn't a big issue, all I lost was a couple of weeks of my Lightroom catalogue. I've fixed everything else, I needed to allow myself permission to view in Synology.

The issue now is still how do I remove the large warning... Not a big one I grant you but annoying, especially as it also shows up in the tray.

Any recommendations for backup software? I am looking in to File History but I think I'm going to have issues with multiple users using the same NAS (in windows). I currently have the backup set as one user so I can keep the backup size constant, but I have the rest of the NAS set up as a network drive as another user. I want to keep it that way as it separates everything out.
