Needing some advice on the best backup software for a Windows SBS 2003 machine.

It was setup using ntbackup, but as the backup finishes it locks the machine so we have had to stop using ntbackup. I have tried to install Synantec Backup Exec 11d, but it gives an error when trying to install. (Why is it wheneber Symantec products are absolutly rubbish?)

So what are my other options? Its backing up to a HP DAT72 USB tape drive.

Thanks

Just from what you have said I think you may have other issues here rather than just NTBackup and Backup Exec.

Can you check the event logs and post any error messages here so we can try and help you.

Everything looks fine in the event logs.

Ntbackup was the last entry before it locks, it locks pretty much the same time as ntbackup finishes its operation.

Backup Exec just gives a generic installation error. The server runs like a dream apart from the backup problems.

Have you got all the latest Service Packs, patches installed etc?

Have you got the latest build of Backup Exec etc?

All latest service packs, all patched up :)

I think backup exec 11d is the latest, they may be an 'e' version available.

Are there no other backup software solutions?

The is Arcserve from Computer Associates, it just seems very odd to me that NTBackup and Backup Exec are both giving you errors.

i think backup exec is down to it being no the best product as it won't even install. I have used a lot of the older Veritas versions and never had a problem with them.

I am downloading Acronis True Image Server Edition to try as we speak.

The home version is excellent so this might work ok.

Thanks for your help.
